Baimang Snow Mountain is also known by the name Baima Snow Mountain. It lies in central portion of huge Hengdgun Mountain range located in south eastern part of Dequin in Yunnan province of China. This mountain is located between Lancang and Jinsha rivers. This mountain possesses a great nature reserve and is recognized as the highest as well as largest one in Yunnan Province. It covers an area of one hundred eighty thousand hectares. It has wonderful views of lakes, rare highland animals, glaciers, plant species, canyons, lakes, well preserves forest in frigid zones, and more. Snow capped Beautiful Peaks as racing snow horses
The majority of the permanent peaks that are snow capped are at a height above five thousand meters. The highest of the peaks of Baima Snow Mountain is Zhalaqueni, which is at a height of five thousand six hundred and forty meters over sea level. The lowest spot is Xiaruoxinag which is a height of 2,080 meters above sea level. The landscape offers unique features for excellent climate as well as vegetation. The mountain peaks appear as cluster of racing snow horses. Therefore, it was given the name Baima which means white horse. At the eastern and western parts of White horse Mountain, deep canyons are developed from Jinsha and Lancang rivers. To the opposite Lancang river bank, there are thirteen mountain peaks.
Nature Ecology in Baimang Snow Mountain
The animals and plants are adaptive to the very cold temperatures here. The plant and animal resources are rich and therefore Baimang Snow Mountain is named as ‘Kingdom of Animals and Plants in a Cold temperature Mountain’. Special protection is offered to ten plant kinds like Pseudotsuga forrestii Craib, Circaeaster agrestis, and more. Similarly ten animal kinds are also provided state protection. Few such animals are snub nosed monkeys, lesser pandas, and clouded leopards. Across the globe, this White Horse Mountain nature reserve is biggest primeval forest. The natural ecology of this forest is intact yet. This place is one of the best alternatives for bothered climbers. Through this natural reserve, the G214 Yunnan Tibet Highway passes. One can view almost all scenic areas on the sides of the G214 highway.
Travel Tips
It is best to visit Baimang Snow Mountain in summer season. The melting snow, brooks, azure skies, faming azaleas, romping monkeys and more are stunning sceneries. But, when you visit in autumn season, you can find that the entire place is rich in different colours. This can never be seen during the period from month of December of April, when roads are generally closed because of heavy snow. Since this scenic area is located on Yunnan Tibet highway, one can get bus from Deqin or Zhongdian to reach Baimang Snow Mountain. The fee for admission is just forty Yuan. The fundamental accommodation facilities can be attained at main entrance of nature reserve of Baimang Snow Mountain.
